LAMP SHADE GUIDE

How to choose the right lamp shade?
It can be difficult to find the right shade for the lamp base, here are our tips & recommendations on how to think about the choice of lamp shade. Everything from size, shape, color and material.

Choose the right bracket, here are our different types of brackets:

SHADE WITH CLIP

This bracket fits best on a bulb-shaped light source

SHADE FOR CHANDELIER BULB

This bracket fits on all chandelier bulbs

SHADE WITH RING

This bracket is mounted directly on the lamp holder

SHADE WITH RING ON TOP

This bracket is mounted directly on the floor lamp bulb holder (intended only for lamp holders with bracket pointing downwards)

CHOOSING THE SIZE OF THE LAMP SHADE

The height and width of the lampshade and lamp base should not be the same. To calculate the height, you can do this by dividing the lamp into three thirds, where the lamp base is 2/3 and the shade is 1/3. This means that if your lamp base is 40 cm, the shade should be half the size, which is 20 cm in this case.

The width of the shade should be twice as large as the lamp base. That is, if the lamp base is 10 cm wide then the shade should be around 20 cm wide, ie 10 cm on each side when placed on the lamp base.

WHAT FORM SHOULD IT BE ON THE LAMP SHADE?

To create symmetry, the shade and the lamp base should have the same shape.
If you have a circular lamp base, place a circular screen. If the lamp base is square, then it is a square screen you should have.

If you have a lamp base that is ornate, it may be good to use a simple lamp shade that does not stand out. The contrast means that the focus is on the beautifully decorated lamp base, which is allowed to stand in the spotlight instead of the shade.

Tip! Do you feel that this with it being symmetrical is not your thing, try to do the opposite. Place a circular screen on a square lamp base. And if you want to decorate the home beyond the ordinary, then spice up your lamp, both shade and lamp foot!

MIX AND MATCH WITH COLOR

Matching with similar colors creates harmony in the room. Blue with blue shades and green with green shades. However, it does not have to be the same tones, it can be colors that complement each other, for example warm colors such as red and orange.

If you have red pillows on the sofa, please combine with an orange lampshade. Just as with pillows and curtains, lampshades are a great way to get a more daring and lively color in the room that breaks off and creates contrast. Test with a color that stands out among the interior design at home. The possibilities are endless!

RIGHT MATERIAL = RIGHT LIGHT

In addition to color and shape, the material of the lampshade is an important factor in getting the right lighting in the room. If the lamp is to be used for reading or to illuminate the room, it may be good to think before choosing a screen with thick material. Then use a screen that is, for example, transparent or thin in the material as it emits more light.

Shades of light fabric and paper, such as rice lamps and white fabric, give off a diffused light. The light spreads softly in the room and does not form sharp shadows as it does not shine in any particular direction. If, on the other hand, you want a directed light, choose a shade that shuts the light in and directs it to a certain direction. Last but not least, don't forget to choose the shade you like!
